Users of Xorro-Q will observe new benefits when they start up Q this term. Launching in February are several new question types and improved scoring.
Users have asked for variations on the current core question types:
2-way multi choice: users will now be able to choose a prference between A/B options, True/False or Yes/No.
5-way multi-choice question: A Lichert scale option will allow users to choose between several popular scale descriptors.
Numeric answers: a variation on text responses, in which the character keyboard is replaced with numeric.
The scoring functionality is currently being developed and should be in release by early March. This will allow questions – and different choices within a question – to be automatically scored, with participant scores then being maintained in the Results.
On the QF site, extensive changes to layout have improved user experience and ease of use. Sharing of resources between facilitators through an activity library is currently being developed.
What’s next?
Support for images in questions and in options is a current project priority and should be completed by end of March.
Macintosh users will finally receive the Mac version of the popular Q-Launcher toolbar in late March.
A new version of the Q-Launcher toolbar is to be released in April, and will permit launch of selected pre-prepared activities from the Launcher. These might include for instance, question batches for use in quizzes at the start or end of a lesson.
More distant:
Capture of images from participant devices’ cameras, and bringing those to the facilitator’s screen through a modified form of “text question” has been frequently requested and is high on the list.
We are considering a specialised form to deliver to participants’ devices between questions. This will allow participants to post a question, to see all questions posted by all students in the group, and to vote on which questions they would like answered. In this way, large group settings can promote questions of high shared interst effectively to the facilitator during the session.
